The book was launched by Dr. Barry Judd, a descendant of South Australian Pitjantjatjara people and British migrants to gold rush Ballarat. A former University of Ballarat student of Dr Newton’s, Dr. Judd is now Professor of Indigenous Studies at RMIT.

The name ‘Mullawallah’ is currently a focus of considerable controversy as, in the first place naming process, it was soundly rejected by up to 200 residents as the new suburb name for the area between Delacombe and Smythes Creek. Dr Newton hopes that insight into Mullawallah’s life and Indigenous history of this area may help future naming projects.
